Course Description – Attuning to Phonophobia (11.1)

This class works as a primer on rhetorical sound studies. While we do not have time for an exhaustive treatment of the topic, we will focus our energies on important strands of thought in this discipline including embodiment, listening, feminism, critical race studies, and new materialism. Students will also be provided with several opportunities to research their own interests within rhetorical sound studies and compose sonic compositions around topics that interest them.
