Last semester, I was enrolled in ENG 321, Writing in the Disciplines and Professions, at the University of Nevada, Reno. This class allowed me to explore a potential career path within my major, Human Development and Family Science. This course prepares students for the types of documents they will need to prepare in a profession of their choosing. For the project I submitted to the JUMP+, I used material from previous projects in this class as my sources. I had resources from interviews I had conducted with professionals in the field of education. In addition, I also used my own personal field work experience as evidence.
This project allowed me to learn about the skills, education, and abilities needed to work in the education field. The projects we completed throughout the semester led up to this final project. These assignments included a reflection of our strengths and weaknesses in writing and interviews with professionals in the field. This allowed us to learn which documents are most important to know how to compose in our desired careers. We began creating this Digital Composition in November with a due date in early December. We then had to present this composition to our class. When deciding what I wanted to do for this assignment, I decided to create a newsletter for incoming first-year students that are considering pursuing a degree in the realm of education. I hope that with the help of my newsletter, individuals can learn more about careers in education, as well as discover if they are passionate about this type of work.
